“What Do I Wear to a Winter Wedding?” and Other Reader Questions

Reader Fashion Questions

We’ve featured reader questions on everything from avoiding panty lines to being a good house guest. Today, with some help from Nordstrom, we’re excited to discuss six fashion queries…

Q. Where can I find a party top as an adult? I always wear black jeans and boots, but I need a top! — Jenny
A. For those times when a sweater or tee just won’t do, look for a flowy wrap top in a pattern or floral, or choose something with a fun sleeve or lace detail. Another party outfit idea: Keep your top simple, and opt for a pretty skirt, instead.

Q. I’m in search of the perfect bootcut cords. Advice appreciated! — Carrie
A. Who doesn’t love a good pair of cords? The versatility of jeans, the look of pants and the coziness of PJ’s all wrapped into one. When it comes to a great boot cut style, this pair comes in a bunch of colors. But why stop there? If you’re a fan of cropped silhouettes, this butterscotch pair is adorable (not to mention comfortable).

Q. Why oh why is it so hard to find a simple cardigan? I swear I look for one every year and am without much luck. — Suzanne
A. We hear you and we feel your struggle. But the perfect cardigan is out there. In fact, there are lots of great cardigans, it just depends on the mood you’re going for. If you’re going for a cozy, chunky, librarian-in-the-best-way cardigan, look no further than this middle number. For a classic cardigan (great for layering or wearing with a dress), we love this black one. Last but not least, this side button blue number adds a fun detail.

Q. I’m a guest at a wedding in a few weeks. What are some good winter wedding looks? — Lee
A. Winter weddings are a great time to lean into romance and drama. Think: dark florals, pretty patterns, velvet, sumptuous fabrics… You’re making us wish we could be a guest, too. (Need a plus one?;) The best part is, after the wedding is over, all of these looks can do double duty for dates or nights out. Have a wonderful time!

Q. I have Converse and LOVE them but I feel like I need the right no-show sock?! — Bren
A. Ah yes, the age old “socks with Converse” question. For those who prefer the sockless look (of which Caroline counts herself a die hard fan) these no-show socks are the best we’ve found. In the colder months, Joanna is known to pair hers with socks in all different colors and patterns.

Q. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for winter shoes during pregnancy? Planning for when I will be trudging through snow and ice with a belly. — RMA
A. Congratulations! These cozy boots are great for winter time — with a sturdy tread for walking down wintry sidewalks. These faux-fur-lined sneakers are warm and easy to walk in. (And you’ll love to wear them after your baby arrives, too.) When dressing up is on the docket, durable, go-with-anything black booties are a great choice.
