There are no off days when you are a mother. Taking care of the kids require a whole lot of work – cleaning the house, bathing them, preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner, making sure they finish their meals… the list is never-ending. And a new survey reinstates just that.
What The Survey Says
A survey done on 2,000 American moms revealed just how hardworking moms can be. It was found that moms work an average of 98 hours per week. This is equivalent to working 2.5 full-time jobs. The survey was conducted on mothers who had school-aged children between 5 and 12 years old.
According to the survey, the average mom clocks in at around 6:23 in the morning. And the work continues until 8:31 at night. It just goes to show how hardworking and demanding the role of a mother can be. It also highlights the constant barrage of tasks it contains.
The average mom feels lucky if she gets 1 hour and 7 minutes to herself every day. And we’re sure many moms would agree. According to the survey, 4 out of 10 moms said their lives are like a continuous series of endless tasks.
Wet Wipes And Yoga Pants – Mom’s Lifesaver
But despite the tedious tasks and demands of motherhood, the moms do have some helpful lifesavers. The array of certain toys, snacks, and techniques helps an American mom run their life smoothly. The top items on the list of sanity-savers include iPads, wet wipes, and baby wipes, kid’s TV programs, coffee and drive-thru meals, yoga pants, Netflix, and the help they get from grandparents and babysitter whom they can really trust.
This is a list most moms would agree with. Taking advantage of the drive-thru meals when you are exhausted to cook or taking a break from the busy schedule by turning to Netflix is something most moms can’t do without. And of course, the constant supply of coffee is what keeps you going throughout the day. The ability to take a nap whenever and wherever possible and whipping out an angry voice when needed is also among the list of top 20 lifesavers voted by mothers.
The Struggle To Feed Healthy Meals
Busy moms who are rigorously working week in and week out to feed and fuel the family may identify with the above list of lifesavers. It’s also reported that 72% of mothers struggle to feed their children healthy meals and snacks. If you have a family of picky eaters, we totally feel what you are going through. It’s hard enough making a meal. But it’s painful to make something that the whole family enjoys without complaining about it throughout the whole meal. On top of that, 83% of moms also feel the pressure to make a healthy diet for the family which includes fruits and vegetables. Similarly, even for beverages, women struggle a lot to find something that they know is nutritious and healthy.
So, if you are a mom who relies on drive-thru meals every once in a while, know that it is a predicament most moms can relate to. We all know fueling the family without adding to your workload is tough.
Moms are the ones who usually have to bear the burden of making the right and healthy choices when it comes to the overall nutrition and the family’s diet. Some moms have a few resourceful tricks up their sleeves. Dipping veggies and fruits in yummy sauces and making smoothies by using frozen fruits are common in 40% of homes.
It may seem like a downer for most of us, but most moms would argue that it’s worth the effort. Though these findings may not come as a surprise to many of us out there, it’s an eye-opener for the rest of the society. We hope with surveys like this, moms would get more support in their homes, communities, and workplaces.
