Mom Travels for Work, Dad Sends Son to School with Her Menstrual Cup for Show and Tell

As parents know all too well, when you’re busy with life, some things inevitably go by the wayside, whether that’s housework or self-care or a million other things. For a dad on Reddit, it was missing a major detail about his son’s show and tell item, leading to one hilariously awkward conversation with his child’s teacher.

The father, who goes by the username sothishappened2, told the tifu Subreddit, short for Today I F***ed Up, that his wife had been out of town on business for a couple of weeks, giving him sole responsibility to watch their son, Ben. Over the weekend, he noticed Ben for the first time playing with a “little silicone cup that kinda looked like a tulip” and “had its own little satchel”—a feature the dad said he “loved” and made him assume that the cup just went with a play set.

When he asked his son what the cup did, the youngster proceeded to demonstrate its versatility. “Over the next few days it helped the PAW Patrol save the town, it was a treasure chest holding tiny pebbles guarded by pirates, a force field protecting a space ship,” the OP wrote.

The kid loved the cup so much, “it came with us to the park, grocery shopping and even out to dinner one night”—and also to the child’s school, where he presented it as his pick for show and tell, with the dad’s blessing.

It was only when he was picking up his son up at the end of the school day and the teacher asked to speak with him that the father realized he made a mistake.

As the teacher revealed to the OP, the item was not a toy, but a menstrual cup to collect period blood. The dad wrote that he felt both panic and confusion.

Some of the convo went like this:

“Me: ‘It just…stays in there?’

“She nods.

“Me: ‘Are you sure? I don’t think that would, uh, fit…too, uh…comfortably…there.’

“Teacher: Oh, it folds in half then springs open inside…’

The dad said the exchange left them both clearly uncomfortable, and he left telling the teacher, “Alright then…so where do I get a replacement because my wife will probably not be too pleased when she returns home and will not want to continue using this one.”

Fortunately, the dad said his wife found the whole thing funny when she learned what happened, and that their son is “none the wiser and is having a tea party with the cup right now.”
