There’s nothing quite like storytime with children, when we share the joy of reading and the pleasure of books as a family. The McDonald’s Happy Readers campaign is back for its sixth year, helping increase book ownership amongst children and encouraging both children and parents to find the joy in reading. This year Happy Readers features a book from The World of David Walliams in every Happy Meal™. It provides fun, easy moments that help spread the joy of reading to millions of families, creating truly together memories.
PLUS our Happy Readers competition gives your family the chance to win £100 in vouchers…to spend on books of course! (Here’s how you can enter now.)
BritMums recently invited a few of our favourite content creators to a celebrity storytelling event in Harrogate as part of a sponsored relationship highlighting their Happy Readers programme, which provides books to children with their Happy Meals to help make more children #HappyReaders.
We saw so many captivated faces as celebrity storyteller (and Emmerdale actress) Charley Webb read from Stacey Superstar, a story from this year’s featured collection The World’s Worst Children from The World of David Walliams. Any parent will tell you that The World’s Worst Children is fast becoming a favourite series when it comes to enthralling kids with off-the-wall, funny and heartwarming stories and characters!
Fueled by Latte’s boys loved the story with Charley…and relish doing the funny voices when reading. “Modelling reading aloud to children, pointing out punctuation as you go, helps them to learn to become more accomplished readers,” she says.
Spot on Shopper says, “The voices Charley put on were epic. She story brought to life in front of us… We loved it.”
“What we also loved about the Happy Meals in this promotion,” says Charlotte from Team Stein, “are the really engaging and fun illustrations of Tony Ross on both the meal boxes and the Happy Readers, helping to keep little diners entertained both during and after their meal.”
The National Literacy Trust recommends reading with your child every day (there are helpful tips on reading with children from the Trust at the back of each Happy Reader).
